Yap Ye Iswa
The Catawba Nation's annual festival Yap Ye Iswa will not be held this year. This was reported in the local newspaper on Wednesday 19 Oct. The information came from Wenonah Haire director of the Catawba Cultural Center. The reasons given were staff reductions and lack of sponsorship. Some of the Catawba potters plan to hold a pottery sale on the date the Yap Ye Iswa was scheduled. The location and other details will be posted here as soon as more things are firmed up. Please come out and support the potters.
Catawba Bingo
Catawba Bingo has scaled back their operations at the Rock Hill location on Cherry Road. This was reported in the local paper on Thursday 20 Oct.
A statement was given by the Catawbas lawyer Jay Bender at the bingo location. No tribe members were present. All bingo for Oct and Nov are canceled. They will start in Dec holding bingo once a month. Jay Bender claimed that the SC Lottery was hurting the Catawba bingo operations.
